TRILOGY: PLEA FOR PEACE

The  following is the explanation of the three art works that had been created by Delia Solari (www.deliasolari.com) to represent a "Plea for Peace" and together they make up a "Trilogy".

1 °: Installation called "Towards  Light." It consists of ten acrylic painted canvases that depict the Twin Towers as they were before the bombing and destruction, the new project at Ground Zero and another one with reflections on what happened on September 11.  The work is 10 meters long with the canvases displayed in a specific way so that the most important are placed in the front line and the others were as impasse, at the back. All lay on a wooden base.

The installation reachs a total height of 2.50 meters. At the beginning and at the end, there are posters with inscriptions related to the philosophy implied in the artwork.

It was exhibited in ART EXPO 2007, in New York City-

"Every time has its art. Every art has its freedom."
Joseph Maria Olbrich.
Upon painting this canvas I felt sorrow, which,
paradoxically, gave me the necessary strength to surrender
myself to this piece of art and to let it express by itself.
Perhaps, as long as there are dull souls in need to harm
others, there will be in me, and in many others, the desire to
search for the light to cover us all.

“Compassion may be defined as a state of mind that is harmless, not violent, and not aggressive. It is a mental attitude based on the desire that the others be released from suffering, and it is associated with commitment, responsibility, and respect to others.”
From “Compassion and the Individual” by Dalai Lama.

2 °: The sculpture called "Towards Harmony" refers to what human beings can do to prevent wars and acts of terrorism. Basically it has been made of modules that are fitted into each other and each module represents a concept based on a theory. This theory states that one must work to overcome one’s own faults and meanness in order to attain a state of transformation. It will enable him to solve problems without aggression or violence. To achieve this one needs to work hard with a positive and very welcome outcome. The universe inhabited by people striving towards this goal will be more harmonious. Hence the name gave to the sculpture.

This sculpture is 3.20 meters high with the base and is made of stainless steel.

It was exhibited in ART EXPO 2007, in New York City.

The spiritual nobleness of our foundations
(Sculpture philosophy)

When making this sculpture I felt inspiration in the human being and his projections: his family, communities, states or nations, and thought about the horror caused by all violent acts by humans in trying to impose their own truths.

I thought about a structure based on the human potentials, on human beings' inherent light and not on the darkness we are often involved in.

It meant looking at me and us from a different standpoint, from the eternal transformation process that life invites us to go through.

The human being is born with a natural internal peace that is sometimes disturbed by internal events such as physical pain, illnesses, or by emotional factors, such as pain, sorrow, frustration, or by events in his environment.

Then he forms a family whose peace is disturbed by different personalities, there may be disagreements, differences, problems, that may be resolved or not depending on their mood and development.

Gathering of families makes communities, societies, provinces, with a peaceful way of developing their own activities. When problems come up, they are solved according to their own social rules, which are sometimes not respected.

Gathering of states, provinces or communities makes nations, which regarding their own characteristics and way of relating to others may evolve peacefully or not.

In all forms of gathering the basic unit is the human being. To the extent that the human beings work out their miseries or defects, by different means that help them go through a true transformation process, a way to a more peaceful life will have been institutionalized. To achieve that transformation it is required to work constantly, arduously, painfully but it may be glorious in the end. In that way, people become more aware to solve differences peacefully and with the harmony referred to in this sculpture.

This process increases and consolidates the individual's internal peace, thus being essential for his self well-being, for a better relationship with the others, with the universe, contributing, therefore, to achieve completeness.

The vision of the completed sculpture persuaded me of the idea that a more peaceful future is possible to achieve.

Beyond horror, misery, or pain, life gives us the chance to have a fresh start, to the extent that we may realize the spiritual nobleness of our own foundations.

I need to believe in a more peaceful future world.

The short film "Renascence."                                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6qpyhuNJBU

This is a 25 minute short film in English, that brings up the discussion of which is the proper method of solving conflicts: war or peace. The main character wants to convince her students that peace is the best way to achieve our goals and solve our problems. She hopes to create a better world and brighter future for all. She decides to build a monument for peace, but as she dies tragically, the monument is built by the students in her honor.
The acronym S.O.S. (Save our souls) at the end of the short film, means to raise awareness against we cannot continue killing one another. Human beings are precious, we need to stop breeding violence on our daily lives. Human beings should relate to one another through love and understanding, so that in case of trouble, solve problems through self-sacrifice on both sides, in order to reach an agreement. To achieve this they have to fight against their own mistakes and meanness, by means of different methods such as therapy, and this will enable a process of real transformation. It is a constant, demanding, and painful task in which one also needs to be flexible, then the outcome is wonderful when transformation is achieved.
This whole process increases and strengthens one’s innermost peace of mind, thus making possible to be better towards himself, his peers and the universe, so they will achieve completeness.
